About The Position

An Ophthalmic Assistant supports ophthalmologists in providing eye care services to patients by performing clinical and administrative tasks that contribute to the efficient operation of the practice. The role includes specialized eye examination and diagnostic testing, patient education, phone support, and practice opening and closing duties. The position is based at Evergreen Eye Center Tacoma in Tacoma, Washington, with up to 25% local or overnight travel.

Requirements

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
Proficiency in using the internet.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including frequently lifting or moving up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting or moving up to 25 pounds, and required vision abilities including close, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and adjusting focus.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience in a customer-facing position preferred.
Medical-related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform specialized eye examination testing while streamlining patient flow.
Conduct diagnostic testing, including visual aids, OCT, and corneal topography.
Provide phone support for prescription refill requests as authorized by the physician.
Educate patients about medication administration and pre- and post-operative instructions as directed by the physician.
Follow legal and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA guidelines, to protect patient confidentiality and privacy.
Assist with opening and closing duties.
Perform other duties as assigned.
