About The Position

Mercyhealth is seeking an Ophthalmic Assistant to join their team. This role is responsible for patient care, including collecting patient assessment data, administering medications, and assisting physicians during treatments and examinations. The Ophthalmic Assistant will perform various diagnostic tests, maintain patient flow, provide patient education, and document patient care. They will also handle incoming telephone calls, perform telephone triaging, and follow up on patient care as needed. The position involves reviewing and maintaining charts and participating in Quality Assurance and Improvement initiatives.

Nice To Haves

High School diploma preferred.
Prefer education as a paraprofessional in ophthalmology or optometry.

Responsibilities

Is responsible for patient care.
Rooms and collects patient assessment data.
Administers medications and performs other patient care procedures as directed and according to established criteria.
Assists physicians during treatment, testing, refractometry and examinations.
Performs retinoscopy, refractometry, A/B scans, photography, fluorescein angiography, corneal/disc topography, assists in surgery, low vision evaluations, visual fields and applanations.
Maintains timely flow of patients.
Provides patient and family education.
Documents patient care and related information.
Respond to incoming telephone calls.
Performs telephone triaging of patients.
Follows up on patient care as needed.
Reviews and maintains charts.
