The Ophthalmic Assistant will perform preliminary screenings as ordered by a physician, including obtaining detailed patient medical/ocular histories, visual acuity, tonometry, lensometry, pupil exam, instilling ocular medication, and visual field testing. This role is responsible for maintaining assigned ophthalmic exam lanes/equipment, ensuring exam rooms are stocked, and interacting professionally with patients, families, coworkers, and physicians while maintaining patient confidentiality. The Ophthalmic Assistant will also participate in their own professional development by maintaining required competencies and continuing education hours to maintain certification, and may perform prescription refills under the direction of a physician. This position serves as a role model in delivering quality patient care.
