Under the direct supervision of the licensed clinician, the ophthalmic assistant performs a wide range of clinical and administrative tasks to facilitate the delivery of eye care in an outpatient clinic. This role involves preparing patients for comprehensive eye exams, administering diagnostic eye drops, assisting in minor office procedures, maintaining supplies, and cleaning/calibrating ophthalmic equipment. The position also includes administrative tasks such as triaging patient calls and providing cross coverage to other services within the ophthalmology department as needed. The role requires adherence to all hospital policies, federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and JCAHO standards.
