Requirements

  • High school Diploma required.
  • Basic life support certification is required.
  • COA Certification within 1 year of hire is required
  • Ability to effectively communicate with hospital & staff, patients, and families.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a pediatric healthcare setting preferred.
  • Prior knowledge of growth and development of infants, children, and adolescent, adults and elderly patients is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of a Physician, assists in the comprehensive care of patients with ocular disorders; provides technical support in the course of diagnostic evaluation and treatment of ophthalmic patient.
  • Collects and documents medical history data from patient/family.
  • Assists with age appropriate ophthalmic examinations including the assessment of visual acuity that includes distance and near, monocularly/binocularly, and pinhole, as well as perform visual and stereo acuity, color vision, basic ocular motility and assessment of pupils.
  • Assists in the performance of examinations of stereo acuity, color vision, assessment of pupils, lensometry, and measurement of the power of glasses including single lenses, bifocals and trifocals.
  • Administers eye drops as directed; assists clinical staff in providing patient education and services.
  • Documents in the Electronic Medical Record and/or paper chart as needed.
  • Upon direction of physician provides patient education and services for patients including instruction on instilling ocular medication, and proper wear of an eye patch, as well as pre/post op education for surgical procedures including limitation and restrictions, patching and shield usage when necessary.
  • Collaborates with the clinical and administrative staff to insure efficient clinical flow.
  • Maintains exam room instruments and supplies, checks examine room supplies and equipment for proper functioning of equipment on a daily basis; assist with ordering replacement supplies.
  • Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required at part of the responsibilities of the role.
