About The Position

This position requires an individual to understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet project standards. The role involves the safe operation of a paver, setting screed sensors, and determining the correct placement of materials. Daily maintenance of equipment, including lubrication, cleaning, and pre-start checks for fluid levels, is essential. The operator is responsible for notifying supervisors of any necessary repairs and performing visual safety inspections before operation. Key responsibilities include understanding and meeting grade and cross-slope requirements, managing the flow of material to the screed, and operating equipment in a straight line. The role also requires adjusting screed crown and strike off, setting up and using automatic grade and slope control, and understanding methods to prevent segregation. A general knowledge of the paver's hydraulic and electrical systems is necessary. The operator must be able to work safely and successfully in a team environment and perform incidental work items related to other crafts.

Requirements

Previous experience as an Asphalt Paving Machine Operator
Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees
Three to Five (3-5) years or more of industry related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges
Must have knowledge of and be able to understand paving procedures

Nice To Haves

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred

Responsibilities

Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project
Must follow safe operation of paver
Must be able to set screed sensors
Must be able to determine the placement of materials correctly
Daily maintenance (lubrication), keeping equipment clean, safe pre-start including daily fluid level checks on oil, water and fuel
Responsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working order
Responsible for notifying supervisor if equipment needs to be repaired
Visual safety inspection for leaks and damage to machine before operation
Understand, meet and plan grade cross slope requirements
Understand the head of material for the screed
Setting of flow
Ability to be a leader
Ability to operate equipment holding a straight line
Keep equipment clean
Proper paving speed to match truck delivery
Adjust screed crown and strike off
Set up and use automatic grade and slope control
Understanding methods of paving to prevent segregation
