About The Position

The Operator Utility Packaging directs quick and efficient changeovers on machines and for new products. The role programs, sets up, troubleshoots, and maintains packaging equipment, and directs packers in efficient product packing. The operator is responsible for preparing machines, managing packaging materials and supplies, monitoring production and packaged-unit weights, maintaining accurate product codes and records, and ensuring packaging-area cleanliness, food safety, and productivity. The position supports company quality, safety, 5S, OSHA, and HACCP programs and participates in Marzetti Operational Excellence activities.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.

Responsibilities

• Review pertinent SOPs and serve as a Qualified Individual (QI) for the position.
• Set up the machine before the shift begins.
• Change packaging materials as needed and ensure materials are correct and properly positioned in the machine.
• Communicate necessary information to oncoming shift machine operators.
• Monitor and adjust weight control of packaged units.
• Record all lot information as required.
• Maintain standard production quantities and rates for each product.
• Ensure codes are accurate and in the correct format.
• Maintain company standards for cleanliness, food safety, and productivity in the packaging area.
• Replenish packaging supplies such as film, boxes, cartons, glue, ink, or labels.
• Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions, make minor adjustments or repairs, and communicate mechanical problems to maintenance personnel.
• Ensure compliance with quality, food safety, 5S, OSHA, and HACCP support programs, as well as company, customer, and government standards.
• Promote safety by maintaining a 200% safety mindset, participating in engagement activities, completing required safety training, and helping identify hazards through BBS and Safety Monitor programs.
• Participate in activities related to Marzetti Operational Excellence.
• Direct packers in efficient product packing.
