Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, another engineering discipline, or a related technical field is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory experience is preferred.
  • NERC Reliability Certification, or the ability to obtain it within 2 years, is required.
  • Must be on the Clearance and Control list, or able to obtain authorization within 2 months.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts is required.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the safe, secure, reliable, and efficient operation of National Grid’s New England Transmission system.
  • Provide real-time analysis, monitoring, control and emergency response for the transmission system, including: Switching and tagging activities associated with planned, forced, and emergency outages.
  • Coordinate planned, forced, and emergency outages with applicable entities.
  • System Restoration
  • Operate transmission system equipment within established ratings
  • Implementation of ISO-NE and National Grid Emergency procedures.
  • Monitor the health and accuracy of the EMS system.
  • Communicate in a professional manner; ensuring adherence to 3-part communication procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable FERC, NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE standards.
  • Train and develop new System Operators to maintain a highly skilled team.
  • Support an error-free environment o The consequences of control room errors or omissions include personal injury, widespread outages, system-wide disturbances, and NERC fines of up to $1M per day.
  • Represent the New England Control Center on ISO-NE and company level committees.
  • Maintain close and effective working relationships with the EMS staff, ISO-NE, field work force, and distribution control rooms as well as with neighbouring utilities, and transmission customers.
  • Maintain NERC Reliability Coordinator certification.
  • Maintain Clearance and Control authorization.
