This position reports to the Grind Blades Supervisor and is responsible for finishing the grind of drill insert thickness. The role involves setting up and running production, specifically the thickness grinding of high-speed steel and carbide blades. The operator will be responsible for inspecting print dimensions and parts for taper using digital indicator stands, changing grinding wheels and truing wheels as needed, and washing parts. Communication with department leaders regarding application/operation problems and assisting in testing is also a key part of the role. The operator must inspect ground surfaces for size and flatness specifications, access on-line work instructions and charts, and observe and report areas needing attention. Maintaining a high quality level and efficiency rate, working safely, and correctly reporting job transactions are essential. The role also includes filling out NCRs for blades that do not meet quality standards, following the inspection plan, and maintaining low absenteeism/tardiness. A willingness to follow instructions and procedures cooperatively, and the proper use and care of micrometers and calipers, along with the ability to read and understand blueprints, are also required. Planning the flow of product through the cell to keep machines running and meet due dates is part of the job.
