Perform a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks in roadway maintenance. This role involves performing emergency roadway operations as an essential employee. You will operate and maintain light and medium-duty equipment for maintenance and construction, prepare and operate equipment for snow and ice removal, clear roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and clean up after accidents. Additionally, you will provide traffic control, operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles, and ensure proper work site protection techniques are demonstrated. This includes identifying workplace safety hazards, wearing proper personal protective equipment, and maintaining knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures (OSHA, VOSHA, etc.). You will use equipment properly and safely, apply MUTCD for detours, lane closures, and work zones, and maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment, adhering to VDOT safety regulations and practices. The role also requires participation as a working member of the crew to complete projects, performing manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed, and using a variety of hand and power tools. Preventive maintenance includes repair, replacement, and pre-trip inspections for all operated vehicles and equipment. You will also install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices for work zones, detours, and lane closures, assist in tracking inventory, and maintain records.
