Perform a combination of skilled equipment operations, preventive maintenance, and manual labor tasks in roadway maintenance. This role involves performing emergency roadway operations as an essential employee. You will operate and maintain light, medium, and heavy-duty highway equipment and vehicles to perform maintenance and construction-related work tasks. This includes preparing and operating equipment for snow and ice removal, clearing roadways of snow, ice, and debris, and cleaning up after accidents. You will also be responsible for providing traffic control and ensuring proper work site protection techniques are demonstrated. Identifying workplace safety hazards and making suggestions for improvement, wearing proper personal protective equipment, and maintaining current knowledge of safety rules, regulations, laws, and procedures (OSHA, VOSHA, etc.) are crucial. You will use equipment properly and safely, apply MUTCD for detours, lane closures, and work zones, and maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment, adhering to VDOT safety regulations and practices. Additionally, you will participate as a working member of the crew to complete projects, perform manual labor and other maintenance tasks as needed, and use a variety of hand and power tools. Preventive maintenance includes performing repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance, as well as completing pre-trip inspections for any vehicle or equipment operated. You will also install, maintain, and remove traffic control devices for work zones, detours, and lane closures, assist in tracking inventory, and maintain records.
