This role is responsible for performing various tasks related to the plating process in the manufacturing of medical devices and components, as well as a full range of work center, cell or flow-line operations to assemble or support routine assembly operations following prescribed processes and insuring adherence to quality standards. This role maximizes output with limited waste in a safe, quality-driven manner. You are driven by the knowledge that the products you help make save and sustain lives. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
  • SAP trained within first 30 days
  • Proficiency in operating plating machinery and understanding of chemical processes involved in plating.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure quality standards are met and to identify any defects in the plating process.
  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and process discrepancies effectively.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols related to chemical handling and equipment operation.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and document processes accurately.
  • The ability to use hands and fingers to manipulate tools, equipment, and components is crucial. This includes tasks such as handling small parts, operating machinery, and performing detailed inspections.
  • Technicians may be required to lift and carry materials or equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • The job often requires standing for long periods, sometimes up to 8-12 hours a day, while performing plating operations or monitoring equipment.
  • Tasks may involve repetitive motions, such as dipping components into plating solutions or operating machinery controls, which can lead to fatigue.
  • Technicians may need to bend, stoop, or kneel to access equipment or inspect components at various heights.
  • Good vision is essential for inspecting plated components for quality assurance. This includes the ability to distinguish colors and detect defects. Testing will be provided to assess the ability to work in those areas.
  • Technicians must wear appropriate PPE, such as gloves, goggles, and lab coats, to protect against chemical exposure and ensure safety while working.

Nice To Haves

  • An associate degree in a related field (e.g., manufacturing technology, materials science) is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a plating or manufacturing environment is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with plating techniques and equipment is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and clean surfaces of components to be plated, ensuring they are free from contaminants that could affect the plating process.
  • Dry, inspect, and pack parts for production.
  • Safely handle and dispose of chemicals used in the plating process, adhering to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Operate and monitor plating equipment, including electroplating and electroless plating systems, to apply metal coatings to various substrates following established SOP.
  • Ensure quality (GMP) and FDA regulatory performance in the department.
  • Complete DHR and SAP paperwork and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain accurate records of plating processes, including parameters, batch numbers, and inspection results, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Successfully complete training modules and demonstrate proficiency in assigned duties.
  • Introduce and train on Kanban/material movement processes.
  • Work closely with engineering and quality assurance teams to develop and improve plating processes and resolve any issues that arise during production.
  • Maintain department equipment in working order and ensure cleanliness and adherence to 6S standards.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on plating equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and environmental regulations related to chemical handling and waste disposal.
  • Participate in safety training and promote a culture of safety within the plating department.
  • Proactively contributes to zero harm in the workplace for all employees by complying with legal and corporate (EHS) Environmental Health & Safety requirements, safe work practices, and EHS policies and procedures consistently.
  • Report all hazards, near misses and incidents as soon as practicable and participate in identifying actions to prevent harm from occurring to our people and/or our environment.
  • Employees at every level are responsible for quality (GMP) Good Manufacturing Processes and regulatory performance in the department to ensure quality program is met.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations, legal documents and safety and ethical standards, obtaining legal compliance training.
