About The Position

Maintains the operations and performs manual labor necessary to maintain recreational features, trails, and other amenities to ensure the enjoyment and safety of the public on the Mission Reach, Museum Reach and San Pedro Culture Park. Safety is #1 at the River Authority: We expect every employee: to 1) Strictly follow safety policies, rules, and safe work methods. 2) Promptly correct or report safety hazards or unsafe conditions. Immediately report injuries for prompt diagnosis and treatment. 3) Make regular suggestions for safety process improvements to support continuous safety improvement.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and less than one (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of landscape or agricultural equipment (for Operations Technician I); or High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of landscape or agricultural equipment (for Operations Technician II); or a combination of experience and education that results in the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Ability to attain a Handlers Verification Card within six (6) months of employment
  • Obtain CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Confined space entry certification within (1) one year of employment.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
  • Operation and maintenance of hydraulic systems
  • Safe herbicide mixing procedures.
  • Electrical functions for lighting, entry-level troubleshooting with multi-meters for voltage and ohms
  • Plumbing, carpentry and masonry knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains public recreational features including pedestrian trails, benches, picnic tables, pavilions, foot bridges, signage, and artwork.
  • Operates a pressure washer to clean sidewalks, walkways, artwork, and other recreational features; removes graffiti as needed.
  • Cleans assigned building structures and restrooms and performs minor repairs to, faucets, toilets, plumbing, etc.
  • Maintains and replaces water feature pumps.
  • May lead volunteers.
  • Performs routine litter pickup and floatable debris removal within project areas that include dense vegetation, steep slopes, or that require the use of a canoe or kayak to access.
  • Manually loads trucks with sand, gravel, or waste material.
  • May operate a service barge and tractor with trailer in tow to launch or remove service barge from river boat ramp in a safe manner.
  • Manages deployment of absorbent booms to collect contaminates in the river.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment such as: power and hand tools, mowers, weed eaters, tractors, vehicles, and other equipment commonly used for vegetative, slope, and structural maintenance.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks on equipment, vehicles, and structures.
  • Responds to emergencies and performs on-site repairs to equipment and structural improvements as needed.
  • May, with supervision; troubleshoot, repair, and replace hydraulic gate components, lights, ballasts, and other components within the assigned project area.
  • Maintains appropriate records for storage and use of hazardous materials including training records and Safety Data Sheets.
  • Performs related work as required.
