About The Position

Air Products is looking for a skilled Operations Technician for their Gulf Coast Ammonia facility in Texas City, TX. This facility includes a Steam Methane Reformer, Air Separation Unit, Ammonia Plant, and related utilities. The role supports the development of operating, safety, emergency, communication, and work process procedures, and assists with commissioning process systems. During start-up and operations, this is an on-shift role supporting the team in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting plant equipment and systems. The role monitors and controls processes producing hydrogen, nitrogen, and ammonia, including utilities, compressors, rotating equipment, and DCS operations. It also involves maintaining water chemistry, performing daily tasks, and completing preventive maintenance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing, production, processing, or chemical/petrochemical environments required
  • Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to meet call-in requirements and participate in on-call rotation
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Strong operations aptitude and dedication to operational excellence and reliability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter with a positive demeanor and ability to work in a team environment
  • Proficient in SAP and Microsoft Office
  • Proven dedication to safety and continuous improvement
  • Must be capable of wearing self-contained and air purifying respiratory protection.
  • Must be clean shaven.
  • Must be willing to work at a tobacco-free facility.
  • Must pass an OSHA approved ERT Physical.

Nice To Haves

  • Process technology or maintenance certification preferred
  • DCS (PCS7) experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with SMR, ASU, NH3 site supervisors, shift leadership, pipeline team, and CSC to monitor plant and utility operations
  • Follow operating, communication, and decision-making protocols to handle real-time supply/demand changes and advance issues as needed
  • Support daily operations across ASU, SMR, and NH3 units based on system status, production rates, and maintenance activities
  • Troubleshoot process issues and provide technical and hands-on support, including during shutdowns
  • Identify and implement safe work practices, operational discipline, and permit requirements (including hot work and safety work permits)
  • Maintain training compliance, including safety, procedures, troubleshooting, and operational standards
  • Support and complete emergency response plans; participate in drills and lead response efforts as needed (e.g., Hazwoper Technician, Mobile Ammonia Suppression Team)
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and environmental events; identify root causes and support corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and site programs (e.g., Zero Leak, IRR, Hearing Conservation, Respirator Program)
  • Understand unit interactions, transitions, and upset conditions across the facility
  • Support preventive programs, implement guidelines, and drive continuous improvement with strong attention to detail and execution
