About The Position

We are currently seeking a 2nd class Power Engineer (or 3rd Class Power Engineer currently progressing to obtain their 2nd Class Power Engineering Certificate) for our Edmonton (AB) facility. Reporting to the Chief Power Engineer/Site Supervisor, the Operations Technician will be responsible for controlling and monitoring the processes to produce hydrogen from our highly automated plants (e.g. steam system, compressors, rotating equipment, and DCS operation), as well as work alongside Maintenance and Instrumentation/Electrical Technicians to maintain equipment. Additional duties will include taking field readings, performing equipment inspections, testing and additional responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Second Class Power Engineering Certificate; or Third Class Power Engineering Certificate with progress toward obtaining Second Class certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid authorization to work in Canada.
  • Minimum 5 years of plant operations experience.
  • Experience in industrial process operations, hydrogen, refining, petrochemical, utilities, or related industries preferred.
  • Experience working in safety-sensitive industrial environments.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of DCS operations and process equipment.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • The successful candidate must comply with Air Products Alcohol and Drug Policy requirements, including pre-employment testing and other testing permitted by legislation and company policy.

Responsibilities

  • Control and monitor continuous hydrogen production processes.
  • Operate plant systems including steam systems, compressors, rotating equipment, and DCS systems.
  • Perform field readings, inspections, water testing, and operational rounds.
  • Support plant turnarounds and outage activities.
  • Prepare and maintain operating procedures, MOC documentation, and audit documentation.
  • Monitor contractor activities and ensure compliance with site requirements.
  • Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures and issue Safe Work Permits.
  • Participate in safety committees, meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with maintenance and technical support teams.
  • Prioritizes operational activities to maintain safe and reliable production.
  • Responds to process upsets and abnormal conditions using established procedures.
  • Coordinates with maintenance and technical teams regarding equipment performance and reliability concerns.
  • Applies operating procedures, technical knowledge, and site standards to support plant performance.
