The Operations Supervisor, reporting directly to the Operations Manager, is responsible for fostering a zero harm environment and ensuring efficient day-to-day operations. This role involves a strong focus on health and safety, employee relations, and operational efficiency within industrial services. Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership, managerial or supervisory role
  • Knowledge of production management processes, manufacturing equipment and preventative maintenance principles
  • Ability to develop safe operating procedures
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, OMS and Workday
  • Proven organization, time management and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends, if required
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide valid documentation confirming their eligibility to work in the country where the job is located prior to their start date

Nice To Haves

  • Related industrial services operational experience preferred with knowledge of waste management and environmental services
  • Class 3 drivers license
  • Experience in a union environment

Responsibilities

  • Ensure on-site operations are conducted in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, within permit conditions and to customer specifications with a significant focus on health and safety
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, maintenance and housekeeping in accordance with company and regulatory requirements including seasonal winterizing of fleet vehicles
  • Report and identify all incidents, hazards, safety infractions, non-compliance issues and participate in the investigation and development of corrective actions
  • Ensure Field Level Hazard Assessments and site inspections are completed
  • Ensure internal and external training is up to date for Operators
  • Ensure Job Task Observations (JTO’s) are completed and up to date for Operators
  • Actively participate in branch safety meetings
  • Conduct training as required
  • Supervise daily operations, providing feedback, coaching and leadership to the operating team
  • Resolve and record all employee-related issues including such issues that require disciplinary measures
  • Lead, motivate and develop direct reports utilizing Job Task Observations (JTO’s), Vital 9s and Hazard Assessments to reinforce or correct specific behaviors
  • Monitor compliance for direct reports to internal policies and applicable regulations and legislations
  • Participate in the recruitment process and support the onboarding and training of new hires
  • Plan, assign, direct and monitor work for Operators based on client requirements
  • Ensure operational documentation is accurate and completed in a timely manner including but not limited to work orders, driver logs, pre-trip vehicle inspections, BOL’s, manifests, maintenance repair logs, etc.
  • Communicate atypical waste disposal projects with the Waste Water Treatment Team
  • Coordinate the maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain and implement standard operating procedures (SOP’s/SWP’s)
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvements to processes and procedures
  • Support the site’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and our Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Program
  • Ensure all visitors to the site (Contractors, brokers, etc.) are complying with site and corporate safety policies
  • Ensure the compliance of all contractors’ site compliance utilizing Field Level Hazard Assessments and Safe Work Permits
  • Perform emergency operation activities as needed
  • Be on call as needed to meet client requirements
