Under general direction of the WPCD Superintendent, supervises and oversees the collection, treatment, and disposal of wastewater for the City. This role involves planning, directing, coordinating, and controlling the activities of the Operations Division staff, including payroll, hiring recommendations, work assignment and review, performance evaluation, leave scheduling, and daily work instruction. The position also assists in budget preparation and monitoring, oversees purchasing of equipment and supplies, inventory control, and accounting procedures, ensuring services meet quality and timeliness standards. It includes planning for new services and expansion of unit functions, attending meetings, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. The supervisor is responsible for the safety, health, and accident program, providing on-the-job training, recommending and implementing goals, and maintaining records of chemicals, materials, and supplies. Preparation of monthly reports, plant questionnaires, permit applications, and conducting plant tours are also key duties. The role requires knowledge of wastewater treatment methods, safety precautions, regulations, and supervision techniques, as well as skills in treatment and analysis, communication, lab testing, record maintenance, computer operation, and relationship building. The position demands strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to manage multiple projects and maintain confidentiality.
