About The Position

This role is ideal for an operations supervisor who enjoys working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and can manage multiple tasks simultaneously while ensuring safe, high-quality production standards. This role would provide leadership for hourly employees on first shift. Operations Supervisors at Lucas Milhaupt are responsible for leading teams, collaborating with others, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and overseeing day-to-day manufacturing operations to ensure production targets are achieved for our customers.

Requirements

  • Operations Management Experience - Minimum of 3-5 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong, positive relationships with co-workers and embody a teamwork approach to organizational goals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiar with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute various projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to adjust to changing priorities to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to lift, move, and stand for long periods in a manufacturing environment while being exposed to typical manufacturing hazards (e.g., machinery, noise).

Nice To Haves

  • Background in a fabrication shop or manufacturing desirable.
  • Familiarity with stamping, forgings high speed passes or ring making and metals background, either ferrous or non-ferrous is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Business Administration, Operations or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Resolve operational challenges, prevent delays, and minimize disruptions to production schedules.
  • Foster a culture of Teamwork, Respect, Integrity, and Commitment.
  • Act as a bridge between the production team and leadership team to provide valuable insight into manufacturing performance.
  • Communicate and coordinate between various departments to ensure manufacturing operations align with strategic initiatives.
  • Reduce defects, lower rework costs, and maintain customer satisfaction.
  • Promote safety as the number one priority and maintain a safe working environment by enforcing company safety policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards.
  • Ensure that all equipment and machines are operated in a safe manner and that safety training is provided to all employees.
  • Support all environmental health and safety activity including OSHA compliance.
  • Drive quality initiatives into the process reducing the need for post-production inspection.
  • Assist in quality initiatives and compliance with governing bodies (AS9100/ISO9001).
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards and company specifications in the production process.
  • Monitor product quality, investigate issues, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Conduct inspections, audits, and maintain records to ensure product consistency.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop a team of hourly machine operators.
  • Provide guidance, support, and training to employees, ensuring they understand job duties, safety procedures, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and assist in identifying opportunities for employee growth and development.
  • Oversee daily manufacturing activities to ensure adherence to production schedules.
  • Coordinate and direct the work of hourly team members.
  • Ensure the use of best practices and efficient manufacturing processes.
  • Monitor and track performance to meet productivity goals, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
  • Oversee the accurate tracking and management of raw materials and finished products within department responsibility.
  • Collaborate with the supply chain and inventory departments to ensure materials are available for production.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to reduce waste, increase efficiency, and lower operational costs.
  • Address and resolve production issues, equipment breakdowns, and any challenges that arise in daily operations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean or Six Sigma projects to streamline operations.
  • Collect and analyze production data to make informed decisions and suggest process improvements.
  • Drive all Lean activities within the Value Streams including 5S, Process Mapping, Flow Methods (Pull, Kanban), SMED, Standard Work and Visual Management.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management regarding production status, KPIs, and any issues that may impact production timelines or quality.
  • Act as a liaison between different departments to ensure smooth operations and collaboration.
  • Prepare and submit reports on production metrics, downtime, employee performance, and safety incidents.
