About The Position

The Operations Specialist Trainee (OST) at SRP is a Power Plant Control Room Operator Trainee. The OST will begin as an outside (auxiliary) Operator during their training period. Previous experience as a power generation plant control room operator or control room operator trainee is highly preferred, as is experience with LM6000 generating units. The OST position is a training role designed to develop the skills necessary for promotion to the Operations Specialist position. The trainee will be involved in all aspects of operating a power generation facility, which may include maintenance functions depending on the facility. This training position has a specified duration and is not a role to which an O&M 3 operator can be upgraded.

Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of all training objectives to develop the skills necessary for promotion to the Operations Specialist position.
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Appropriate respirator medical certification, fit test and training required.
  • Physical Agility Test.
  • All candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as a power generation plant control room operator or control room operator trainee.
  • Experience with LM6000 generating units.

Responsibilities

  • Successful completion of the OST curriculum and promotion to the Operator Specialist classification.
  • Under limited supervision, learn the facility-specific operation of natural gas simple cycle turbines and their related equipment.
  • Operate and monitor equipment and auxiliaries remotely from the control room and throughout the facility using information from Distributed Control Systems, gauges, instruments, and communication facilities.
  • Operate all units in their charge and related equipment. This may include regular O&M duties at the site, such as maintaining housing areas, civil works, roadways, water or sewer systems, etc.
  • Coordinate and maintain unit availability with AGC, including preparation and planning for load reductions/increases based on system demands, requiring a thorough knowledge of the entire plant operation as it relates to power generation.
  • Operate units within environmental and SRP guidelines.
  • Direct the work of other classifications and assist as directed by others in task completion.
  • Train personnel in other classifications in the proper operation of plant equipment, controls, and procedures.
  • Evaluate plant processes and issue clearances as needed, requiring a thorough knowledge of the clearance procedure.
