About The Position

Home Chef is a leading meal solutions company with both a retail and online presence. The Safety & Sustainability Manager oversees the development and sustainment of all Safety, Health, and Environmental (EH&S) policies for all Home Chef facilities. This role is responsible for promoting the strategy for the development and sustainability of the safety culture at Home Chef, facilitating network alignment to policies and regulatory compliance, and collaborating with site leadership to prioritize impactful programs. The position also involves integrating EH&S work with the Home Chef Operating Systems, ensuring all required safety training content is created and implemented, maintaining safety KPIs, supporting incident response, and driving sustainability initiatives to meet company goals and reduce waste.

Requirements

  • 1 - 5 years of experience in EHS team capacity preferred
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite or G Suite, specifically in PowerPoint/Google Slides and Excel/Google Slides
  • Ability to prioritize, meet strict deadlines, and maintain confidentiality
  • Must be available to respond to work related inquiries nights and weekends
  • Completion of a four-year degree program in a related field: Environmental or occupational safety & health or related field

Responsibilities

  • Develops and Implements Health and Safety Policies, Programs, and Systems: Promotes the strategy for the development and sustainability of the safety culture at Home Chef.
  • Facilitates network alignment to policies and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborates with site leadership to be proactive and identify the most impactful programs to prioritize.
  • Responsible for integrating the strategies of the Home Chef Operating Systems into our everyday EH&S work, projects, and execution of our plant teams.
  • Ensures all required safety training content is created and implemented across all Home Chef facilities.
  • Develops a hopper of training opportunities and builds content with the associate learning experience in mind.
  • Partners with department heads of sanitation, maintenance, and warehouse to ensure role specific safety training is developed and maintained.
  • Creates an assessment and prioritization system to identify the most impactful training opportunities and where the current gaps are.
  • Maintains safety KPIs for Home Chef and generates reports to share with the broader Ops teams.
  • Harnessing the data provided to create a culture that is proactive around safety.
  • Translates the behavioral operation and incident management programs into actionable intel, and then enables our site leads to act with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Builds and owns the framework for cross-network best practice sharing ensuring that actions taken in one location are effectively deployed at all locations to keep our teams safe.
  • Creates standard documentation and response templates for regulatory inquiries, and supports the file development that the site Safety Manager needs to complete their response.
  • Enables site Safety Managers to focus entirely on actions and engaging with local regulatory teams, like OSHA, through research into compliance and effective management of incident documentation.
  • Partners with HR and the plant Safety Managers on mitigating Workers Compensation claims, leveraging program strategy to affect existing claims and future proof against new claims.
  • Identifies and drives strategic initiatives to further Home Chef’s sustainability goals and remain ahead of local compliance, as well as, generate savings in food waste alternatives.
  • Supports Home Chef goals for reducing utility usage and generating efficient facility operation.
  • Partners with local and national providers to streamline Home Chef’s food and material waste processes.
  • Serves as the company’s subject matter expert for safety and is the point of escalation for all OSHA interactions.
  • Takes on the responsibility of creating and maintaining a strong safety culture within Home Chef.
  • Establishes a strong working relationship with Plant Managers and site Safety Managers.
  • Partners closely with the Facilities Compliance Manager to ensure the Contractor Safety program is up to date and any PSM audit findings are corrected.
  • Seen as the subject matter expert of Safety for all corporate initiatives including, but not limited to, automation integration, facility improvements, and sanitation chemical additions.
