About The Position

This role involves operating, troubleshooting, repairing, planning, installing, modifying, evaluating, and maintaining heating, cooling, pneumatic, and electronic control and ventilation equipment. This includes rooftop HVAC units, chillers (gas, electric, air and water cooled), building exhaust systems, and boilers. The position also requires understanding and operating hospital life safety systems such as fire alarm and sprinkler protection, medical gases, and monitoring isolation and positive pressure rooms. The mechanic will apply engineering practices using City, State, Federal, and JCAHO codes, standards, and safety practices for installation and maintenance. Responsibilities include performing preventive maintenance, safety checks, and inspections, repairing equipment promptly, monitoring the DDC building management system to ensure proper control of environmental systems, and maintaining departmental procedures, quality assurance, infection control, and safety policies. The role requires participation in educational programs and in-service meetings, working with minimal supervision, and effective communication via email and the hospital's Meditech system. Other work-related duties may be assigned.

Requirements

High school graduate or GED required.
Good physical and mental health.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in installation and maintenance of commercial/industrial HVAC.
2 years of experience using building environmental management systems (e.g., Johnson, Siemens, Honeywell).
Demonstrated understanding of boilers and steam plants.
Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
Valid Massachusetts driver's license.

Nice To Haves

Possession of a Massachusetts trade license in Electrician, Plumbing, Pipe fitter, or Refrigeration (advances to Grade 15).

Responsibilities

Apply engineering practices and codes (City, State, Federal, JCAHO) to develop, install, and maintain hospital equipment.
Perform preventive maintenance, safety checks, and inspections on systems.
Repair equipment in a timely manner.
Monitor the DDC building management system to control hospital environmental systems.
Maintain departmental procedures, quality assurance, infection control, and safety policies.
Participate in educational programs and in-service meetings.
Communicate efficiently and effectively using email and the hospital's Meditech system.
Perform other work-related duties as requested or assigned.
