About The Position

Lumbermen’s is expanding its presence and is excited to open a temporary location in Warren, OH, with a permanent facility to be built in Youngstown, OH. This role will involve hiring and training new Employee Owners to establish the team in Warren and prepare for the transition to the Youngstown facility. Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan since 1955, Lumbermen’s is a leading distributor and manufacturer in the building materials segment, operating in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Minnesota. The Operations Manager will work in the Youngstown, OH location, leading the warehouse team in collaboration with suppliers, customers, and the sales team to deliver superior building materials. The position requires travel to various Lumbermen's locations within the first 6 months for training on receiving, pulling, and loading materials. The role starts in Warren, OH, and will move to Youngstown, OH once construction is complete. Ideal candidates are highly organized, detail-oriented, service-minded, strong and friendly communicators, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, and possess demonstrated leadership and business acumen in finance and operations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Management or a related field or commensurate experience
  • 5-7 years’ management experience
  • Demonstrated leadership capability
  • Mindset of and inclination toward continuous improvement
  • Positive attitude
  • Desire to facilitate successful outcomes through effective problem solving
  • Effective communication skills
  • Self-motivated
  • Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

  • Modeling and communicating Lumbermen’s mission, vision, and promise to all employee owners
  • Providing overall leadership and direction for the Youngstown and Warren division
  • Recruiting, hiring, training and developing an exceptional team
  • Setting operational goals, tracking progress, and making necessary changes to meet those goals
  • Managing, providing ongoing feedback to, and facilitating performance check ins for all Youngstown division employee owners
  • Monitoring key operational performance measures such as: service quality, expense budgets, adherence to labor budgets, and other productivity measures
  • Analyzing capital expenditures and preparing expenditure justifications
  • Managing divisional P & L and working to improve efficiency and increase revenue
  • Ensuring compliance with safety/OSHA/DOT regulations
  • Overseeing fleet maintenance in conjunction with transportation team
  • Drive and model Lumbermen’s Safety Program and initiatives to ensure employee owner safety
  • Sourcing, coordinating, and facilitating building and ground maintenance, utility, and packaging supplies for the Youngstown and Warren Division
  • Ensuring compliance with corporate policies and procedures
  • Modeling and leading a culture of continuous improvement using lean principles and encouraging the sharing of ideas and suggestions
  • Acting as a process improvement champion
