About The Position

The Operations Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day activities and operations of City Walk BHAM. At the direction of the Director of City Walk Operations this role will ensure proper staffing, maintenance, cleanliness, and guest experiences standards are being met. City Walk BHAM spans 10 city blocks, from 15th St N to 25th St N – almost a mile in length. The entire area encompasses 31 acres, which will provide a space to assist in connecting Birmingham.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years related knowledge, experience, and skills in building maintenance, project management, and public works, or general park maintenance, with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in a related technical field, business administration, engineering, or building science or a combination of experience and some college.
  • Valid State of Alabama Driver License.
  • Knowledge of the related industry hazards and safety practices.
  • Ability to coordinate, analyze, work independently, observe, make decisions, and meet deadlines in a detail-oriented manner.
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking, time management, and deductive reasoning skills.
  • Anticipates problems and implements corrective actions.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships with event managers, coworkers, promoters, exhibitors, patrons, and other internal customers to deliver seamless service delivery for ongoing needs.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, governmental regulations, read and understand floor plans, designs and etc.
  • Make basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions in English.
  • Excellent oral communication, written communication, fluency in English, public speaking, active listening.
  • Strong leadership and management skills required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, to include Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Teams, and Publisher.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry certification(s) preferred.
  • Experience in project management, event or venue program planning strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Directs the overall daily operation and maintenance of the City Walk Birmingham venue.
  • Responsible for curating, coordinating and executing various event space programming.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the venue grounds and infrastructure are well maintained, clean, safe and maintained in an efficient manner.
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate team; work with employees to correct deficiencies and provide team development.
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure proper staffing, including custodial, maintenance and etc. to ensure a safe environment for visitors and patrons of City Walk BHAM.
  • Coordinate with internal team members and landscape contractors, to ensure landscape standards are consistently being met.
  • Responsible for initial determination of items of concern as they relate to electrical, mechanical, plumbing, painting, graffiti and overall general maintenance.
  • Responsible for initiating and tracking work orders with the facility mechanical plant.
  • Creates and oversees the daily schedules for venue.
  • Ensure adequate personnel are scheduled to meet the demands of venue events.
  • Responsible for determining the need to temporarily close areas deemed unsafe either by staff or outside contractors.
  • Serves on CWB leadership team, offering professional expertise on all matters related to the management of the venue.
  • Ensure standards for product, equipment, service quality and operator performance are maintained.
  • Keeps up to date on information and technology affecting functional area(s) to increase innovation and ensure compliance.
  • Assist with the administration of departmental SOP’s and regulatory standards for areas of responsibility.
  • Leads and directs a diverse group of teammates, partners and clients.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships and works constructively and cooperatively with internal teammates and partners.
  • Maintain hazardous materials communication program, material safety data sheets and required records, permits; maintain knowledge of changes in pertinent Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Maintain an accurate record keeping-system, including equipment, maintenance, inventory, building services, grounds maintenance, and inventory logs.
  • Properly manage department inventory including procurement, tracking, auditing and stocking levels.
  • Performs other duties as required.
