This role is responsible for the onboarding, development, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of all drivers and helpers. The position focuses on establishing and maintaining positive relationships with front-line employees and involves spending the majority of the day in the field with them. The role also includes ensuring new employees have the necessary tools, instruction, and feedback for successful daily duties, providing daily check-ins for consistent communication and support during onboarding, and maintaining regular touchpoints with all front-line employees. A key aspect is the regular review of best practices to enhance daily performance, understanding and supporting the career goals of front-line employees, and identifying and addressing improvement opportunities through collaboration. The role requires active practice and seeking feedback on coaching conversations, leading by example to ensure safety practices are paramount, and teaching and developing an understanding of the WM Way. Additionally, it involves conducting Root Cause Investigations for all injuries and incidents, ensuring consistent discipline and retraining, and documenting and maintaining records required by regulatory agencies like the Department of Transportation. The position also entails daily review and auditing of route operations documentation, such as DVIRs, driver time and attendance, and open tickets, with follow-up as needed. Customer visits to evaluate and resolve safety issues and seek service alternatives are also part of the responsibilities.
