About The Position

The Ready Mix Operations Manager is responsible for the overall productivity, efficiency, and safety of Concrete Batch Plant operations and supporting functions within an assigned region. This position provides direct leadership to plant-level management and operations personnel, ensuring alignment with corporate goals, regulatory compliance, and customer service standards. The Operations Manager collaborates cross-functionally with Sales, Dispatch, Safety, and Human Resources to optimize regional performance and drive continuous improvement. This role carries significant organizational impact by translating strategic objectives into operational outcomes that support the company's growth, quality standards, and financial targets.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of experience in the concrete industry.
  • Demonstrated prior managerial or supervisory experience in an operations environment.
  • Proven leadership, training, and employee motivation skills with a track record of achieving operational goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in basic and advanced mathematical skills, including the ability to conduct statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and tablet devices, including the Microsoft Office suite of applications.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize the company's dispatching system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive working relationships at all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain a strategic perspective.
  • Ability to identify problems, gather and analyze relevant information skillfully, and implement timely, effective solutions.
  • Working knowledge of all applicable county, state, and federal regulations pertaining to health, safety, and the environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the operation and maintenance of ready-mix concrete plants and associated equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees all plant operations and personnel within the assigned region, providing direct supervision and strategic direction to Concrete Plant Managers and Batch Operators to ensure consistent, efficient, and safe production.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, and motivates regional operations personnel toward the achievement of company goals and objectives; conducts performance appraisals on a scheduled and as-needed basis; and maintains accurate, current personnel records in accordance with company policy.
  • Provides timely advice, coaching, and assistance to staff; addresses employee complaints, concerns, and suggestions constructively; and implements effective problem-solving and continuous improvement techniques utilizing both internal and external resources.
  • Monitors and coordinates employee training and professional development programs, ensuring all required training is delivered in a timely, cost-effective manner and that competency standards are consistently met across the region.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and reports all production and delivery costs for plants within the assigned region, identifying variances and recommending corrective actions to maintain financial targets.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors regional operational strategies in direct support of corporate goals; coordinates operations personnel to maximize overall resource utilization, productivity, and service quality.
  • Collaborates with the assigned departments to address customer-specific operational issues, provides expert advice and assistance to customers as needed, and ensures timely resolution of complaints and concerns.
  • Ensures that all vehicles, equipment, and facilities within the assigned region are maintained in safe, efficient, and presentable operating condition through proactive inspection, maintenance scheduling, and follow-through.
  • Assists in the preparation of operational budgets and forecasts; maintains effective cost controls across all regional expenditures; and supports the alignment of performance measures to company goals and objectives, including recommendations for process improvements.
  • Enforces all company safety programs and cooperates fully with the Safety Department to ensure that all regional operations and employee activities are performed in a consistently safe manner and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensures full compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR), and all applicable local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations.
  • Cooperates with the Human Resources Department in the consistent implementation of company policies and procedures; promotes a high-morale, team-oriented workplace culture through the application of sound leadership principles and total quality management practices.
  • Benchmarks regularly with industry peers and communicates proactively with the Training Department and relevant industry organizations to remain current on industry trends, regulatory developments, and best practices in process improvement.
  • Strengthens organizational cohesion and morale throughout the region by modeling and promoting total quality principles, fostering open communication, and sustaining a workplace environment that encourages accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
