About The Position

BP is seeking a Welder (O&M W) to join its Construction Maintenance Team based in Manhattan, Illinois. This field-based role supports the maintenance, construction, repair, and integrity of BP's pipeline infrastructure across the Pipelines & Logistics business. The position is primarily focused on welding, pipeline construction, and repair activities, while also contributing to a variety of maintenance functions in a multi-craft environment. Candidates must be able to reside close enough to the Manhattan Pipeline Station to respond to emergency situations as needed and be willing to travel extensively, overnight travel might be required. This is an excellent opportunity for skilled welders who enjoy hands-on work, travel, and contributing to the safe and reliable operation of critical energy infrastructure.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma (or GED equivalent) required
  • Pipeline experience or advanced education in technical crafts or work experience in the job duties described above
  • Possess a working knowledge of computers including Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Must be committed to learning new skills and complete the O&M P and O&M W training curriculum as required for the assigned job classification level
  • Meet all DOT requirements, including Operator Qualifications
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a DOT truck or similar, on and off the road – CDL preferred/must be able to physically acquire one
  • As a condition of employment, all employees must be available to work overtime as needed. This includes working evenings, weekends, holidays, and responding to callouts, including emergency situations. The ability to work overtime is essential to ensure safe, reliable, compliant, and competitive operations, as well as the timely completion of projects.

  • Associates or Technical degree considered a plus
  • Pipe fabrication skills considered a plus

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed but not limited to eye/face protection, flame retardant clothing (FRC), foot protection, gloves, hearing protection, head protection, etc
  • Work nights, weekends, holidays and overtime as necessary and is subject to call-outs including response to emergency situations
  • Knowledge of different pipe schedules and pressure ratings
  • Knowledge of construction material and their uses (e.g. pipe fittings, pressure ratings, connections, coatings and paints)
  • Perform all phases of pipeline, tank and manifold welding, fabricate pipe assemblies, cut and fit structural steel parts
  • Maintain equipment associated with this position in good working condition and make minor repairs
  • Perform inline inspections, pig tracking, hydrostatic testing, hot tapping stopple work, pipeline disconnects, install Clock Springs, purging lines, etc
  • Work directly with contract supply companies and pipeline support contractors to optimize efficiencies and cost control
  • Complete Inspection & Repair reports, Foreign Line Crossing reports or others as required
  • The candidate must be willing to travel to other locations within the district’s geographical area of responsibility, depending on workload and business needs
  • Use Maximo, VTA, MS Office and other applications as the need arises to effectively perform the role
