About The Position

Calpine, a business unit of Constellation Energy Corporation, is America's largest generator of electricity from natural gas and geothermal resources. This role is responsible for the proper operation of the power facility while assigned on shift. The technician will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment, including Gas Turbines, Steam Turbines, HRSGs, Gas Compressors, Air Compressors, Motors, Pumps, and other auxiliary equipment. A strict adherence to all safety and environmental rules and regulations is required to protect employees and public safety. The role operates under the direction of Plant management and supervision.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or a combination of experience and education.
  • Basic electrical knowledge.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all facets of power plant operations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
  • Capable of writing operating procedures and training site personnel.
  • Capable of filling the position of Lead Operator on shift.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and P&IDs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to write routine reports.
  • Demonstrate the ability to solve practical problems.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate tasks and needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to train other personnel.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to do reaching, climbing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), walking and stooping.
  • Ability to wear self-contained breathing apparatus and respirator.
  • Must have ability to see color.

Responsibilities

  • Proper operation of the power facility while assigned on shift.
  • Maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Strict adherence to all safety and environmental rules and regulations.
  • Filling in for Lead Operator on an as-needed basis.
  • Reading meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, and fluid levels.
  • Keeping management, supervisors, and employees informed of unusual conditions, damaged equipment, and job progress.
  • Visually inspecting and listening to equipment to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment, or lubrication.
  • Using facility operating procedures and equipment technical manuals to maintain and repair equipment.
  • Supporting the use of a computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Maintaining equipment by tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges.
  • Cleaning, replacing, oiling, and lubricating component parts and equipment.
  • Performing the work of all equal or lesser skilled classifications.
  • Recording maintenance actions taken on Work Order forms.
  • Opening and closing valves and circuit breakers as required for proper system operation and isolation.
  • Performing capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned.
  • Repairing, replacing, dismantling, and examining defective parts, along with lubricating and cleaning parts.
  • Setting up and operating machinery like drill presses and grinders to make and repair parts and equipment.
  • Operating welding and cutting equipment and completing metal fabrication projects.
  • Diagnosing the cause of mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment.
  • Reading, understanding, and complying with all regulatory procedures and facility safety.
  • Working assigned shifts or irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility, including overtime.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of assigned maintenance areas.
  • Cooperating and participating as a team member.
