About The Position

SA Recycling is one of the largest scrap metal recyclers in the United States and is experiencing rapid growth. We are looking for an Operations Laborer to join our expanding operations. This role involves various tasks assigned by management, including general housekeeping, inspecting metal processing, upgrading materials, and assisting technical workers. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn new skills, progress to more technical tasks, and work independently. The work environment is a scrap metal yard, primarily outdoors, and requires the ability to work in all weather conditions.

Requirements

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check.
• Ability to communicate effectively with others.
• Ability to understand direction (written or oral).
• Ability to use basic math skills as the job demands.
• All US applicants must be 18 years of age or older.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED and/or foreign education acceptable.
• Bi-lingual (English & Spanish) language skills.
• Willingness to learn how to sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights.
• Willingness to learn how to properly maintain equipment.
• Willingness to learn how to properly utilize PPE.

Responsibilities

• Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles.
• Material handling and sorting, including pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling hoppers, boxes, and conveyor belts.
• Unpacking boxes using box cutters and separating packaging materials.
• Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torquing pipe fittings, removing bolts, automobile parts, and appliance parts.
• Working with recycling equipment for processing metal products, such as metal shears, band saws, and wire strippers.
• Directing traffic of yard vehicles.
• Performing light facility maintenance, including painting, scraping, and moving furniture and equipment.
• Assisting with machinery repair by pulling and installing parts and working with other employees.
• Performing housekeeping duties such as sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, and debris collection.
• Conducting moderate and periodic landscaping work.
• Cleaning up the work area at the end of the shift.
• Keeping work areas neat and orderly.
• Organizing materials for effective use of space.
• Disposing of various waste materials appropriately.
• Ensuring cleanup is completed.
• Maintaining effective housekeeping in the workplace for safety and hygiene.
