About The Position

The Office of Livable Streets (OLS) is seeking to hire an Operations Inspector to assist in the Universal Bus Stop Seating and Edge Object management initiatives. This role is critical in ensuring the implementation and maintenance of DOT’s goal to install a bench or leaning bar at every eligible bus stop in New York City within ten years. The Operations Inspector will report to the F&O Senior Operations Manager and will be responsible for managing outreach to maintenance partners, business improvement districts, and elected officials. Key duties include using siting criteria to select locations for street furniture, measuring installed sites, photographing locations, verifying correct installation using technical site plans, conducting inspections of bus stops and Street Improvement Projects (SIPs), creating site surveys and installation plans, inspecting installed assets, and maintaining accurate records in a Microsoft Access database and using mobile applications, as well as creating maintenance work orders. This role also involves supporting community-facing work, coordinating with various stakeholders to address local needs and concerns, and ensuring seating and wayfinding elements improve accessibility, comfort, and safety for transit riders, particularly seniors, people with mobility impairments, and caregivers. The position contributes to the equitable implementation of street furniture citywide. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, curious, capable, a team player with a positive attitude, and possesses strong organizational and communication skills.
