About The Position

The Erb Group is one of North America’s largest privately-owned refrigerated transportation providers, specializing in the timely, protected distribution of temperature-controlled perishable goods across Canada and the U.S. This role is based in Winnipeg and involves coordinating loads, drivers, deliveries, and pick-ups within the Winnipeg service area, requiring familiarity with all traffic and dispatch functions at the Winnipeg Terminal.

Requirements

  • Excellent organizational and planning abilities.
  • Computer dispatch experience is required.
  • Strong communication skills are required in order to provide quality customer service.
  • Ability to delegate work to drivers while following company policies and protocol.
  • Trailer loading and unloading experience using material handling equipment.
  • Teamwork, flexibility, and a positive attitude are crucial.

Responsibilities

  • Have full knowledge of Erb Transport’s computer dispatch systems and ensure moves are completed accurately and up to date throughout the shift.
  • Be knowledgeable of delivery schedules throughout Manitoba, Northwest Ontario, and Saskatchewan as they pertain to the Winnipeg Terminal.
  • Ensure pick-ups are covered throughout Winnipeg and coordinate pick-ups with other Erb dispatchers.
  • Dispatch drivers efficiently, considering hours of service and power unit limitations.
  • Plan load coverage and dispatch moves throughout the shift for effective cost measures (e.g., direct deliveries, elimination of cross-docking, load direct to terminals).
  • Interface with Linehaul and Dock personnel regarding equipment, load requirements, prioritization of moves, and customer obligations.
  • Set priorities with incoming and outgoing loads in the dispatch system.
  • Answer incoming calls from drivers and customers.
  • Assist in solving delivery problems and provide quality customer service.
  • Provide continuous communication to all dispatch/traffic personnel to move freight quickly and economically.
  • Cover all operational and administrative functions within local operations.
  • Keep records on trailer locations and continually update trailer movements in the computer.
  • Assist terminal personnel with any operational inquiries.
  • Assist on dock loading and unloading of trailers as needed using material handling equipment (Forklift and Walkie).
  • Communicate with management regarding any major customer, equipment, and/or staff issues.
  • Perform all other duties as required.
