Operations Engineer

About The Position

Reactive Markets is seeking an Operations Engineer to ensure the stability, performance, and availability of its trading platform. This is a hands-on technical operations role focused on production systems, infrastructure, and trading workflows. The Operations Engineer will act as the first line of defense for live trading systems, handling Level 1 and Level 2 support, including monitoring, alert triage, technical investigation, configuration delivery, and post-release verification. The role involves supporting client onboarding and integrations with an emphasis on technical delivery, system correctness, and incident response. Reactive operates a globally distributed, follow-the-sun operations team, and this role requires providing operational coverage across a regional trading session, with clean handovers to other hubs. The UK and US roles are remote, while the Singapore role is office-based. The company is investing in AI-assisted tooling and knowledge engineering to enhance its operations. This position is ideal for someone with experience in trading or FinTech operations who enjoys working closely with production systems, solving complex problems, documenting thoroughly, and taking ownership in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience in operations or production support within trading or FinTech.
  • Working knowledge of the FIX protocol, ideally in FX or electronic trading environments.
  • Understanding of trading infrastructure, networking, and low-latency connectivity.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools in live production environments.
  • Linux fundamentals.
  • Comfortable with configuration-as-code (Git, structured config like YAML).
  • Scripting and automation skills (e.g., Bash, Python) for investigation and automation.
  • Ability to own production issues, investigate, escalate when needed, and close the loop.
  • Ability to stay calm under pressure, think clearly, prioritize effectively, and communicate status during incidents.
  • Strong documentation skills (runbooks, configuration notes, post-incident reviews).
  • Clear, proactive communication with engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proactive approach to improving systems through automation, better tooling, or clearer processes.
  • Willingness to learn and use AI tooling for operational tasks.
  • Existing right to work in the country associated with the advertised location (UK, US, or Singapore).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in FX or electronic trading environments.
  • Experience building operational tooling, automation, runbooks, and knowledge corpus.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor live trading systems across multiple regions, venues, and asset classes.
  • Own Level 1 and Level 2 response: triage alerts, execute standard runbook actions, investigate issues, declare severity, and coordinate incidents.
  • Escalate to Level 3 (Engineering/Infrastructure) only when code or deep infrastructure intervention is genuinely required.
  • Participate in failover and disaster-recovery readiness exercises.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and blameless post-incident reviews, contributing to runbooks or tooling improvements.
  • Deliver the production-change pipeline for new clients, liquidity providers, venues, and capabilities.
  • Configure and maintain FIX sessions (streaming, RFQ, algo, post-trade), cross-rates, indications of interest, subscriptions, certificate rotations, and pool registrations.
  • Execute changes safely against the platform's deployment configuration, including schema updates, ACL coordination, and post-release verification.
  • Support migrations, decommissioning, and related tasks to maintain the production estate.
  • Own the technical execution of client and LP onboarding: credentials, IPs, conformance and UAT testing, cross-connects, day-1 readiness, and post-go-live verification.
  • Act as the technical point of contact during onboarding, providing necessary information to Client Services.
  • Monitor and validate FIX message flows, identifying issues related to execution, routing, or market data.
  • Maintain clear, accurate documentation for configurations, onboarding steps, and troubleshooting.
  • Contribute to capacity and infrastructure planning (session load balancing, gateway placement, utilization monitoring).
  • Coordinate with external vendors and counterparties (network providers, colocation providers, post-trade vendors, liquidity providers).
  • Identify recurring issues and contribute to long-term fixes and preventative improvements.
  • Help build operational tooling, automation, runbooks, and the knowledge corpus, including AI-assisted investigation and documentation.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits aligned to your local market.
  • Flexible working (remote-friendly in UK/US, office-based in Singapore).
  • Growth opportunities as the platform scales.
