About The Position

Be part of the nation’s only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste. Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Operations Engineer and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree with two (2) years of experience, or Associate’s degree with six (6) years of experience, or High School Diploma or Equivalency with ten (10) years of experience is required.
Must be 18 years of age.
Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.
Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).
Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns—including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries –are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Nice To Haves

Previous operations and operations start up experience.
Demonstrated experience with achieving authorization to operate nuclear operations is desired.
In depth knowledge of DOE Order 425.1D, and DOE standard 3006-2010 is preferred.
Experience working with Documented Safety Analysis's and in-depth knowledge of the application of Technical Safety Requirements (TSRs).
Previous WIPP Project experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

Assisting Readiness Assessments, Contractor Readiness Assessment (CRA) and Contractor Operational Readiness Review (CORR) teams.
Coordinating plant readiness for startup actions.
Assisting in completing activities during Readiness Reviews and implementations including, scheduling activities, equipment walk downs, initial procedure and training development, coordination of response to Readiness Review findings and observations.
Representing the group in organization and schedule meetings by representing adequate plant knowledge, startup impacts, operations impacts, and possess Technical Safety Requirement (TSR) knowledge.
Underground walk downs may be required dependent on project needs.
The Operations Readiness Engineer will report to the Operations Readiness Manager.
