About The Position

The Student will work with Operation Engineer on distribution system protection, protection coordination, power quality, and reliability. They will investigate reliability referrals, develop action plans to remedy issues, create work requests to implement proposed solutions, and respond to customers once issues have been resolved.

Requirements

  • The successful applicant should be enrolled in an ABET accredited university as a college undergraduate or a graduate level post-secondary educational program in a related discipline.
  • To qualify as a co-op student, enrollment in the university’s co-op program (proof of enrollment required); if not eligible for co-op program (or program unavailable), the student will be considered an intern.
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required.
  • Engineering Preferred/Related Discipline: Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical
  • Year in School: Junior or Senior
  • Microsoft Office and Basic Understanding of Power Systems

Responsibilities

  • Create and/or process work requests in work management software
  • Estimate electrical loads for customers and determine actual or proposed field measurements.
  • Model proposed designs in the appropriate software to meet customer needs and ensure all results follow respective regulatory requirements
  • Produce construction prints for field construction of proposed designs
  • Attend weekly work scheduling meetings
  • Assist TEC Distribution Design sta ff as needed
  • Responding to storms will be considered a condition of employment. Team members are required to participate in the response/recovery activities related to emergencies/disasters to maintain service to our TECO Energy customers. Team members are required to work in their normal job duties or other assigned activities. Proper compensation will be made in accordance with the company's rules and procedures.
