About The Position

Within the assigned area (Los Angeles /Ventura), assists the Business Unit Leaders and all project leadership to develop, grow and maintain business units, from the project lead stage through preconstruction, construction and closeout. Ensures operational excellence in the execution of all required policies and procedures by the business unit’s employees. Maintains a relentless focus on meeting and exceeding customer needs and expectations. Builds business with current customers by delivering on our promises and creates new business with potential customers in a proactive manner, promoting all our construction services.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of construction industry experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple projects at a time.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others, while maintaining effective relationships with customers by meeting or exceeding their requirements and expectations.
  • Supervises and develops direct reports while prioritizing and delegating significant responsibilities to others.
  • Manages essential functions effectively by consistently driving for quality, profitable, safe, and timely results on the assigned project.
  • Demonstrates solid presentation skills and verbal/written skills.
  • Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools and software, such as email, internet, Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook), Smartsheet, Primavera P6, Procore, digital documents and BIM models.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, grow and maintain business units from project lead stage through preconstruction, construction and closeout.
  • Ensure operational excellence in the execution of all required policies and procedures.
  • Meet and exceed customer needs and expectations.
  • Build business with current customers by delivering on promises.
  • Create new business with potential customers by promoting construction services.
  • Create and manage project budgets and coordinate Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) development.
  • Understand owner's contract requirements, including bonds, fees, insurances, notifications, schedules, reporting, and costs.
  • Assist in the development of monthly Projected Final Cost Report (PFR) projections.
  • Collaborate with operations team and Preconstruction to prepare, review, and monitor project budget costs.
  • Collaborate with operations team to develop and report on Minority Business Entity (MBE) requirements.
  • Collaborate with project team to establish sustainability objectives.
  • Create a construction schedule with project manager, scheduling, superintendent, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Develop an organizational and responsibilities matrix and determine project resource needs.
  • Review owner contract with all project participants to ensure timely and within-budget completion.
  • Coordinate and deliver requirements for subcontractors and suppliers to meet project schedules.
  • Responsible for properly staffing projects, including talent acquisition and retention.
  • Assist project teams with employee relations.
  • Assist project operations team on project administration and daily operations.
  • Ensure project team prepares and maintains project schedule, milestone dates, and close-out checklist.
  • Assist with project staffing and assign responsibilities, execution, and follow-up plans.
  • Establish relationships and communication tools with suppliers and other key people to verify materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and personnel are obtained and/or delivered when necessary.
  • Ensure all understand performance standards and expectations.
  • Ensure project site and company assets are secure.
  • Maintain a safe and respectful working environment by implementing programs for safety and loss prevention, Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), risk management, training, and quality control.
  • Support achievement of sustainability objectives for the project.
  • Routinely visit assigned project sites to assess progress, quality of work, and compliance.
  • Meet with project employees to discuss career development, accomplishments, concerns, and ideas.
  • Build effective relationships with customers, design team, subcontractors, suppliers, and user groups.
  • Actively participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance company image.
  • Make presentations to proactively seek new business opportunities.
  • Promote People-First Culture and communicate the Cultural Framework.
  • Serve as a role model and promote professional behavior.
  • Participate in and support operations training programs.
  • Prepare performance and salary reviews for employees, including annual development plans.
  • Develop and mentor operations employees at all levels.
  • Assist project leadership (VP/PX/PM) as needed.

Benefits

  • The base compensation range for the role of Operations Director in LA/Ventura,CA posted above is $225,000 to $245,000 annually.
