About The Position

The Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Supervisor at Heritage Shawville leads the safe, reliable, and dispatch-responsive operation of a multi-unit, subcritical coal-fired plant. The role oversees boilers, steam turbines, generators, and balance-of-plant systems while coordinating maintenance to sustain unit performance and availability. It also ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards while developing personnel and reinforcing operational discipline. Additionally, the O&M Supervisor will provide operations and maintenance support to two other peaking combustion turbine sites: Warren, located in Warren, PA, and Blossburg, located in Covington, PA.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in fossil generation, including operation and maintenance of subcritical boilers, steam turbines, generators, and balance-of-plant systems, with a focus on reliability and performance.
  • Advanced knowledge of plant electrical systems (208V–4160V AC and 125/135V DC), including transformers and switchyard operations up to 230kV.
  • Experience operating and maintaining substation equipment, including oil-filled and SF₆ breakers, with emphasis on switching procedures and electrical safety.
  • Ability to lead and enforce HSE programs, including LOTO, confined space, and hot work, while ensuring environmental compliance.
  • Strong leadership skills in directing personnel, including scheduling, performance management, and maintaining accountability.
  • Ability to monitor equipment condition and use operational data to protect asset integrity and reduce forced outages.
  • Experience executing preventive and predictive maintenance programs, including outage planning and work prioritization.
  • Proficiency in control systems, Microsoft Office, and CMMS platforms (Maximo or similar preferred).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage priorities and coordinate across teams.
  • Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
  • All employees are expected to remain mentally alert and work safely at all times.
  • All NAES managers and supervisors have a direct and important role in ensuring that all work is performed in a healthy and safe manner.
  • Effectiveness in carrying out this responsibility is part of the evaluation of each Supervisor’s performance.
  • All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post-offer physical examination, drug screening, and post-employment random drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • An Associate degree in Power Plant Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Process Technology, or a related field is desired, but not required. Alternatively, equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance or instrumentation and control, as well as relevant industry or military experience, may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Direct operations and maintenance personnel in their daily duties to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the power plant.
  • Report plant conditions—normal, abnormal, or emergency—to the Operations Manager, and take corrective actions in accordance with established policies or as directed.
  • Collaborate closely with the Maintenance Manager to address the plant’s predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance needs.
  • Oversee the upkeep of essential plant logs and records, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely updates.
  • Ensure proper implementation of the plant's water chemistry program, including regular testing, inspections, and maintenance of water treatment systems.
  • Review and update plant policies and procedures periodically to ensure alignment with current goals, operating requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Maintain high morale and motivation among operations personnel, addressing employee concerns effectively and promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with NAES policies, procedures, project work rules, and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Implement and oversee safety programs, including Safe Work Permits, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space, Hot Work, and Chemical Handling, to promote a culture of safety.
  • Encourage and facilitate employee training across all plant programs, ensuring an adequate number of trained personnel for continuous, safe operations, even under adverse conditions.
  • Prepare employees for greater responsibilities and contribute to plant-wide succession planning efforts.
  • Provide cross-training opportunities to foster a well-rounded and flexible team.
  • Ensure that safety protocols are integrated into all job assignments and that work is performed safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with recruiting, screening, and hiring personnel to maintain a skilled and competent workforce.
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of AC/DC electrical systems (208V, 480V, 4160V AC, and 135V DC) and transformers up to 230kV, ensuring reliable power distribution.
  • Perform inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance of substation equipment, including HV/LV breakers (oil-contained and SF6), with a focus on safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Operations Manager and Maintenance Manager.
