About The Position

The Florida Gaming Control Commission is responsible for exercising all regulatory and executive powers of the state with respect to legal gaming, including pari-mutuel wagering, cardrooms, slot machine facilities, oversight of gaming compacts, and other forms of gambling authorized by state law, excluding the Lottery, as well as directly enforcing Florida’s gaming laws and combatting illegal gambling activities. The agency is overseen by five Commissioners who are appointed by the Governor, with Commissioners appointing an Executive Director who leads a team of more than 200 staff members. The mission of the Florida Gaming Control Commission is to preserve and protect the integrity of gaming activities through fair regulation, licensing, effective criminal investigation, and enforcement. Requirements

  • Four (4) years of professional experience in management analysis, program planning, program research, program evaluation, engineering, or administrative work.
  • Experience must include reviewing and researching occupational or professional licensure applications, determining applicant eligibility, or approving or issuing occupational or professional licenses.
  • An associate's degree can substitute for two (2) of the required years of experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree can substitute for four (4) of the required years of experience.
  • Must have computer skills to effectively utilize Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and internet browser software programs;
  • Must have competency in the operation of standard desktop computers, printers, and optical scanners;
  • Aptitude to develop, absorb, and retain general knowledge of gaming operations;
  • Must have skills and knowledge of general office methods and procedures, filing, telephone techniques, and office equipment, as well as English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation;
  • Must have the ability to work in a team environment, as well as a strong work ethic and self-motivation to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to individuals fluent in both English and Spanish.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with experience in Versa Regulation and OnBase.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and processing pari-mutuel, cardroom, and slot machine occupational license applications initiated at the field offices or sent directly to Tallahassee;
  • Taking appropriate action in the licensing database to facilitate the issuance of a license for eligible applicants;
  • Accurately profiling each application in the licensing database within 24 hours of receipt;
  • Identifying deficient applications and notifying applicants of the errors and/or omissions within 30 days;
  • Creating checklist to ensure all requirements have been met;
  • Retrieving criminal history reports from the FDLE website; matching the criminal history with the application and determining whether further documentation is required from the applicant;
  • Answering public inquiries regarding pari-mutuel, cardroom, and slot machine occupational licensing laws, rules and/or policies and procedures;
  • Responding to customer inquiries via email, telephone, OnBase Escalation and Smart Sheet Correspondence process;
  • Assisting with scanning fingerprint cards for electronic submission to FDLE on an as-needed basis. Submitting retained fingerprints to FDLE via Falcon;
  • Researching and requesting license and enforcement status information from other gaming jurisdictions for each slot application; reviewing information to determine applicant eligibility;
  • Assisting with scanning and indexing documents into OnBase, the Commission's imaging system;
  • Answering questions from the field staff and the public regarding pari-mutuel, cardroom, and slot machines occupational licensing laws, rules and/or policies and procedures;
  • Performing special projects and other duties assigned by the Licensing Administrator or the Chief of Operations.
