Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a field related to engineering, computer science, or data science
  • Proficiency in computer programming
  • Experience working in a production environment
  • Strong decision-making, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively make decisions using analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, build partnerships, and seek “win-win” solutions to meet business objectives
  • Ability to quickly learn new concepts in multiple domains including process automation and information technology
  • Ability to work autonomously alongside other teams to identify and resolve process issues
  • Ability to learn complex industrial and physical processes at a deep level of understanding

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in the metals industry
  • Experience working in level 2 process automation (according to the Purdue Model)
  • Experience in software development, especially .NET framework and C-family languages
  • Experience working with SQL databases such as Oracle SQL
  • Experience working with human machine interfaces (HMI’s) such as WinCC

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining, improving, and developing level 2 automation systems for the ArcelorMittal Calvert hot strip mill
  • Developing software solutions using a range of programming languages including FORTRAN, C++, and C#
  • Maintaining databases that record critical process data
  • Conducting incident investigations using specialized tools such as IBA
  • Conducting statistical analysis to tune physical models and improve system performance
  • Maintaining digital tools including human machine interfaces (HMI’s) and shop-floor camera systems
