Operational Officer Level 2 (Risk Planning Officer)
About The Position
The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) is seeking an Operational Officer Level 2 to join the Area Command Community Risk team. This role focuses on helping communities reduce bush fire risk before emergencies occur. The Operational Officer (OpO) Program is an RFS initiative to create and encourage a mobile and agile workforce across the state, offering a unique opportunity to gain experience in a wide range of RFS activities in district and regional roles, as well as other specialized sections. The role provides a broad range of services in a team environment that lead to better protection of the community from bush fires and other emergencies.
Requirements
- Organised, confident communicating with a diverse range of stakeholders, and able to build strong working relationships
- Strong project management skills
- Experience preparing reports
- Ability to review complex information, identify risks and recommend practical actions
- Current HMO/CIO qualifications
- Experience using Guardian, Noggin, OCA or ServiceNow
- Experience handling hazard complaints
- Experience issuing hazard reduction certificates

Responsibilities
- Identifying and assessing bush fire risks across local communities, landscapes and assets
- Supporting the development and maintenance of Bush Fire Risk Management Plans
- Working with Bush Fire Management Committees and partner agencies to support risk management initiatives
- Supporting hazard reduction planning and community protection activities
- Providing advice on bush fire risk, planning requirements and mitigation options
- Coordinating projects, reporting and community risk outcomes
- Maintaining records and using RFS systems in line with policies and procedures
