About The Position

Thiess is seeking an Operational Technology Technician to join their team on an 8/6 roster. This role involves installing and maintaining various onboard technology systems for Thiess and its clients, including GPS guidance, fleet management, in-vehicle monitoring, collision avoidance, Tyre Sense, and Motion Metrics. The technician will also be responsible for installing and maintaining Tetra 2-way radio systems and infrastructure communications like point-to-point links. A key aspect of the role is maintaining secure networks in line with Thiess's cybersecurity protocols, providing technical support, troubleshooting, software updates, hardware configuration, and leading upgrades. The position also requires developing HTGs, schematics, maintaining inventory, and monitoring technology system performance to ensure uptime, innovation, and value. Thiess partners with clients globally in open cut and underground mining, focusing on sustainable mining practices and fostering an inclusive and diverse workplace.

Requirements

• Trade or Communications technical qualification with demonstrated experience in a similar role in surface mining.
• Demonstrated up-to-date knowledge of current industry technology standards and regulations.
• A willingness to upskill and further develop your knowledge and skills in the Communications and Mining industries.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• High attention to detail in safety, quality, and systems.
• Proficient in Microsoft 365.

Nice To Haves

• Field-based mining communications experience (highly desirable), with knowledge of GPS systems, fleet management systems (FMS), in-vehicle monitoring systems (IVMS), collision avoidance systems (CAS), autonomy, payload management systems and related technologies.

Responsibilities

• Install and maintain THIESS and client onboard technology systems including but not limited to GPS guidance (HPGPS), fleet management (FMS), in vehicle monitoring (IVMS), collision avoidance (CAS), Tyre Sense, Motion Metrics and more.
• Install and maintain Tetra 2 way radio systems.
• Install and maintain infrastructure communications, point-to-point links and more.
• Maintain secure networks aligned with THIESS cyber security protocols.
• Deliver technical support: troubleshoot, update software, configure hardware and lead upgrades.
• Develop HTGs, schematics and maintain inventory levels to support the project.
• Monitor technology system performance to drive uptime, innovation and value.
