About The Position

The Operating Systems Engineer III’s role is to strategically design and implement in-house information systems and networked software architectures that support core organizational functions, and assure their high availability. This individual will gain organizational commitment for all systems and software plans, as well as evaluate and select all technologies required to complete those plans. In addition, the Systems Architect assists in providing technical leadership across the organization, from strategic decision making down to the project planning level.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field with a minimum of 10 years related experience required.
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree High School Diploma required with 15 years of relevant experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • MCSE certification or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for system support 24 hours a day/7 days a week/365 days a year.
  • Collaborated with engineering staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of software and systems for fulfilling business objectives and processes.
  • Works with executive team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.
  • Designs and deploy new applications and enhancements to existing applications, software, and operating systems.
  • Performs cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions.
  • Conducts research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts.
  • Interacst and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services.
  • Gauges the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems; develop and implement strategies for improving or further leveraging these systems.
  • Proposes and create system design models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to system programmer and development teams.
  • Designs and perform server and security audits, system backup procedures, and other recovery processes in accordance with the company’s disaster recovery and business continuity strategies.
  • Integrates servers, including database, e-mail, print, and backup servers and their associated software into enterprise systems.
  • Ensures system connectivity of all servers, shared software, groupware, and other applications.
  • Creates and maintain documentation as it relates to system configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
  • Ensures compatibility and interoperability of in-house computing systems.
  • Coordinates and perform in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, for modified and new systems.
  • Monitors and test system performance; prepare and deliver system performance statistics and reports.
  • Provides orientation and training to end users for all modified and new systems.
  • Develops and maintains backup routines ensuring reliable backups and restores.
  • Monitors system security and access, ensuring system integrity.
  • Monitors and maintains system storage.
  • Performs system performance evaluations and makes recommendations for improvements.
  • Prepares system availability reports.
  • Installs operating system and vendor specific software updates, according to established standards.
  • Ensures all production environments are configured for high-availability to maximize uptime.
  • Investigates and maintains any 3rd party system tools for monitoring, backup, security, etc.

  • Works closely with the Data Security Analyst and Chief Privacy Officer to assure proper creation and maintenance of user accounts.
  • Provides technical support, guidance, assistance, and training as required.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of a disaster recovery plan.
  • Works with the Data Base Administrator to ensure database integrity.
  • Develops programs and tools to automate scheduling of system related operations and reports.
  • Uses communication and team work skills to maintain successful working relationships throughout the organization.
