About The Position

The Operating Room Technician prepares the operating room and patient for procedures. The role supports surgical teams by preparing the room and supplies, assisting with patient positioning and care, providing instruments and other assistance to the surgeon, and helping maintain a safe and efficient operating room.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
For non-certified applicants: graduation from an OR technician program accredited through ARC/STSA, qualifying on-the-job training, military technician experience, or experience as an LPN, dental assistant, ophthalmologist technician, or medical assistant. On-the-job or military training must be documented by the training facility, physician in charge, or military command officer.
For certified applicants: successful completion of the Certified Surgical Technologist exam through NBSTSA or NCCT.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
Six months of technical experience or specialized training for non-certified applicants, including qualifying on-the-job or military training.

Responsibilities

Assist with transporting and positioning patients.
Assist in assembling and dismantling tables and instruments before and after procedures.
Prepare the patient and room for planned surgical procedures.
Open sterile supplies and set up for procedures.
Complete skin preparation and draping.
Assist the surgeon with gowning and gloving.
Assist the surgeon by passing instruments and suture.
Help maintain the correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges.
Apply dressings and bandages as needed.
Assist in identifying, collecting, and caring for specimens.
Decontaminate instruments at the point of use and handle and store instruments, equipment, and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
Help turn over the operating room efficiently for the next cases.
Monitor and restock supplies.
