About The Position

Coordinates and performs a variety of tasks relating to the receiving, recordkeeping, and distribution of required supplies and equipment for the Operating Room to ensure adequate inventory. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of behavior. Works under the direction of the Director of Surgical Services or designee who reviews work for conformance with established standards and policies.

Requirements

  • High School graduate and/or GED equivalent.
  • Familiarity with supplies, materials, systems and processes found in a warehouse or supply room.
  • Ability to read and write English.
  • Ability to keep simple records.
  • Ability to perform simple arithmetic computations accurately.
  • Ability to perform necessary tasks involved in preparation of stock, inventory and set of carts and rooms in a high volume environment.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the job.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with Medical Center staff, physicians, patients, and the general public.

Responsibilities

  • Receives, verifies, stores, inventories, and distributes a variety of supplies, instruments, and equipment for the Operating Room in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Transmits requests for items to materials management or vendors utilizing data terminal.
  • Inspects carts, shelves, pods, and rooms to ensure all items are in assigned locations and at par levels.
  • Removes, replaces, and reports any expired or sterile items with broken packaging.
  • Maintains communication with professional and administrative personnel to coordinate supply activities and to resolve problems.
  • Informs manager of unresolved problems and complaints.
  • Recommends and/or readjusts inventory additions and deletions based on usage figures.
  • Attends educational/developmental programs and departmental meetings as assigned.
  • Assists in orientation of new personnel.
  • Transports patients safely and efficiently between service areas/nursing units.
  • Lifts, transfers, and assists patients into chairs, wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Utilizes new improvements and/or technology that relate to job assignment.
