About The Position

The registered professional nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Shriners Children's Professional Model (FOCUSED), which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching, and may participate on committees or projects.

Requirements

  • RN license in state of practice, required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS), required
  • Bachelor in Nursing, preferred
  • 2 Years in a Acute Care Hospital
  • Experience in Pediatric Specialty of the hospital, preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Works well under pressure
  • Knowledge of regulatory agency requirements (i.e. The Joint Commission, State, and Federal agencies.)
  • PEAR, PALS, ACLS: Obtain as required by hospital

Responsibilities

  • Assesses comprehensive data including but not limited to physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs and interprets assessment information to derive the diagnosis or issues as defined by the patients condition.
  • Modifies the individualized plan of care according to the ongoing assessment and reevaluation of the patient's response, status, and outcome indicators.
  • Documents the expected outcomes as measurable goals and the plan in a manner that uses standardized language or recognized terminology.
  • Implements the plan of care in partnership with the patient, family and health-care team members in a timely manner utilizing evidence-based interventions and treatments specific to the needs of the patient.
  • Utilizes teaching strategies appropriate to the individual patient's condition and learning needs.
  • Evaluates the patient/family's understanding of and response to the plan of care.
  • Maintains a professional and therapeutic nurse-patient relationship and serves as a patient advocate assisting patients.
  • Utilizes current evidence-based nursing knowledge, including research findings, to guide and evaluate practice.
