About The Position

North Carolina Specialty Hospital (NCSH), a private, physician-owned medical center established in 1926, is recognized for its high rankings in quality measures and patient satisfaction. The hospital specializes in various surgical areas including orthopedics, ophthalmology, ear, nose, and throat, sports medicine, oral, plastic, podiatry, general surgery, interventional radiology, pain management, and reconstructive surgery. A $15,000 Sign-On Bonus is available for Full Time OR RNs. The primary objective of this role is to ensure comprehensive, safe, cost-effective, and appropriate nursing care for patients across all age groups (4 weeks to geriatric), adhering to established policies, nursing practice standards, and the Association of Operating Room Nurses guidelines. This position requires developing strong working relationships with hospital staff, accepting constructive feedback for performance improvement, and demonstrating flexibility and a positive attitude towards new responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Associate's degree required
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the North Carolina State Board of Nursing or compact multi-state license
  • BLS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire
  • Familiar with instruments and equipment related to Perioperative Nursing
  • Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity in handling instruments

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred
  • ACLS & PALS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) preferred; must obtain both certifications within 6 months of hire if certification(s) is/are currently not active
  • CNOR Certification strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized nursing care to the surgical patient, demonstrating an extensive knowledge base to support a variety of single and multi-system illnesses and/or injuries.
  • Control the environment within the surgical suite and accept responsibility for developing and coordinating a safe plan of care utilizing standards of practice and within the framework of set forth by the policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate appropriate application of age-specific standards, policies, and procedures, and guidelines in caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Follow age-specific standards in administering medications based on patient's age.
  • Follow age-specific standards of care during altered states of consciousness related to analgesia, conscious sedation, or anesthesia.
  • Use age-specific standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines to perform treatments and procedures that are routine for the unit/clinic based on patient's age.
  • Incorporate cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care.
  • In collaboration with the patient/family, and in a developmentally and culturally appropriate manner, implement the plan of care.
  • Demonstrate competency in the provision of nursing care according to established standards of nursing practice and in a developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills, highly organized with excellent organizational and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to concentrate on many detailed requests despite numerous interruptions and the ability to prioritize tasks to maintain patient safety.
  • Provide documentation of patient care in the patient record according to established standards of nursing care.
  • Participate and promote Universal Protocol and time out procedure in every procedure.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with a multidisciplinary team including surgeons, physician's assistants, anesthesia providers, SPD staff, Radiology, and all other OR team members to plan for the care of the patient and to provide for the optimal outcome for the patient.
  • Act as a patient advocate, assess patients’ needs through the peri-operative experience, and adjust the plan of care accordingly while communicating the same with all team members.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities which include collecting and analyzing data to identify quantifiable measures to maintain quality and the promotion of desired outcomes.
  • Participate in the development of patient care delivery systems, standards, policy and procedures, and problem-solving teams.
