About The Position

International SOS Government Services is seeking an experienced Operating Room Registered Nurse to provide surgical nursing care for DOS, DOD, and contractor personnel stationed in Iraq. This mission-driven role is ideal for an OR RN who is confident in acute care environments, surgical support, patient safety, and providing high-quality care in an overseas operational setting. The Operating Room Registered Nurse provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care for patients requiring acute medical or surgical intervention. This role supports pre-operative, surgical, and post-operative care using clinical judgment to assess, plan, implement, document, and evaluate patient care in environments where serious illness or injury may require close monitoring and rapid intervention. Provide OR nursing coverage for patients in acute care, intensive care, short-stay, acute pain, and chronic pain management settings. Prepare patients before surgery and help address questions or concerns. Gather supplies and equipment required for surgical procedures. Maintain a sterile operating room environment. Position and prepare patients on the operating room table. Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures. Evaluate patients during post-operative phases of care. Assist with diagnostic transesophageal echocardiogram procedures for medical and surgical patients. Assist with emergency airway management as needed. Support surgeon-provided consultative services at the bedside or in outpatient clinic settings. Assist surgeons at the bedside for non-ambulatory patients and in clinic settings for ambulatory patients. Ensure timely presence for scheduled clinics and surgeries. Follow project site procedures, standards, continuing education, and mandatory training requirements. Complete required organizational compliance education, including client-specific, Joint Commission, and regulatory requirements. Function dependently and independently within guidance from the Nurse Manager or designee.

Requirements

  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse license from a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Three or more years of nursing experience.
  • At least six months of OR RN experience within the past year.
  • Graduate of an approved and accredited school of nursing.
  • Associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree in nursing. Nursing program must have been accredited by ACEN or CCNE at the time of completion.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Must meet pre-deployment physical requirements.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Card holder required.
  • Valid U.S. passport with at least 18 months remaining before expiration. Must maintain a current passport during assignment in Iraq.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance, specifically MRPT.
  • Must be able to relocate to Iraq for the duration of the project.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English effectively.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous overseas, deployed, remote, or austere environment experience preferred.
  • Current U.S. Government security clearance preferred.
  • Experience supporting DOS, DOD, contractor, or government healthcare operations helpful.
