The hospital specializes in surgical services including orthopedics, ophthalmology, ear, nose and throat, sports medicine, oral, plastic, podiatry, general surgery, interventional radiology, pain management, and reconstructive surgery. This full-time Operating Room Registered Nurse position focuses on delivering comprehensive, safe, cost-effective, and appropriate nursing care for patients across all age groups (4 weeks to geriatric). The role requires developing strong working relationships with hospital staff, accepting constructive feedback, and demonstrating flexibility and a positive attitude towards new responsibilities.

Requirements

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Associate's degree required.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse from the North Carolina State Board of Nursing or compact multi-state license.
BLS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required upon hire.
Familiarity with instruments and equipment related to Perioperative Nursing.
Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity in handling instruments.

Nice To Haves

BSN preferred.
ACLS & PALS from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) preferred; must obtain both certifications within 6 months of hire if certification(s) is/are currently not active.
CNOR Certification strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide individualized nursing care to surgical patients, utilizing extensive knowledge for single and multi-system illnesses/injuries.
Control the surgical suite environment and coordinate a safe plan of care according to established policies and procedures.
Apply age-specific standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines in caring for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including medication administration and treatments.
Incorporate cultural and developmental needs into the plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family.
Demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills.
Maintain concentration on detailed requests despite interruptions and prioritize tasks to ensure patient safety.
Document patient care accurately in the patient record according to established standards.
Participate in and promote Universal Protocol and time out procedures for every procedure.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (surgeons, physician's assistants, anesthesia providers, SPD staff, Radiology, etc.) to plan patient care and achieve optimal outcomes.
Act as a patient advocate, assess patient needs throughout the peri-operative experience, adjust the plan of care accordingly, and communicate changes to the team.
Participate in performance improvement activities, including data collection and analysis, and contribute to the development of patient care systems, standards, policies, and procedures.
