Children’s utilizes the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Periop 101 Program to prepare experienced nurses’ transition to a new practice environment. The program utilizes the AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice, providing nurses with evidence-based knowledge and training to ensure optimal outcomes for surgical patients. The program aims to provide nurses with no previous Operating Room (OR) experience the clinical skills and competencies to transition successfully into the perioperative practice environment. The Periop 101 program is a 7-month program including 3 phases of development: Didactic, Preceptorship and Supported Circulating phases. The program phases provide instruction and reinforcement of clinical skills through a blended-learning approach featuring interactive modules, group activities/team building, skills labs, video demonstrations, and clinical rotations with online support.
