About The Position
Provide direct care for patients before, during, and after surgery and/or surgical procedures. The role also includes patient education and responsibilities as a circulating nurse and/or scrub nurse. The nurse advocates for patients throughout surgery, helping ensure their safety, comfort, and adherence to infection-control protocols while coordinating with the surgical team.
Requirements
- Current New York State Registered Nurse license.
- At least one year of orthopedic nursing experience or related rehabilitation nursing experience.
- Basic Life Support certification.
- Electronic medical record experience.
- Computer skills, including minimum proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
Nice To Haves
- MEDENT experience preferred.
Responsibilities

- Conduct preoperative assessments, including reviewing medical histories and allergies and verifying consent.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure patients are properly positioned and sterilely draped and that the surgical site is verified.
- Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring sterility and functionality.
- Maintain accurate surgical records, including documentation of medications, procedures, and patient responses.
- Facilitate communication among surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical technologists, and other surgical team members.
- Monitor patient safety and comfort during surgery and follow infection-control protocols.
- Respond effectively to emergencies, including equipment malfunctions, changes in patient status, and other unforeseen events.
- Comply with relevant healthcare regulations, standards, and best practices.
- Stay current on surgical techniques, equipment, and best practices through ongoing training and education.
- Perform supplemental and other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
