About The Position

This role involves providing direct patient care within the operating room, ensuring patient safety, managing necessary equipment and supplies, and collaborating with the surgical team. The position requires adherence to organizational standards, values, and policies, including infection control and patient rights. The Registered Nurse will be responsible for implementing physician orders, administering medications, developing and executing patient care plans, and maintaining accurate records. Additionally, the role includes participating in quality improvement initiatives and providing assistance to other units as needed.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse
  • Current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required for all nurses.
  • ACLS & PALS - ICU, ER, PACU, SDC, OR, Endo, 4th Floor Pediatrics
  • ACLS & NRP - Maternal Infant
  • ACLS - 2nd, 3rd, 5th floor, & Cardiology, SWU
  • Sitting, walking and standing; lifting objects up to 50 lbs.; lifting and turning patients with/without assistance; kneeling, crouching, stooping and squatting; pushing and pulling patients with/without assistance; twisting of hand and wrist; reaching; motor coordination and manual dexterity (meds and treatment); hearing acuity(distinguish heart and breath sounds); visual acuity (read gauges and dials on equipment); color vision(changes in patient skin color and colors of medication).
  • Working with or near chemicals; working near radiation sources; working near fumes; working with hazardous waste; wearing protective clothing and/or equipment; exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Annual completion of World Health Organization hand hygiene education and training and its relationship to infection control in addition to physical demonstration and understanding of compliance monitoring.
  • For the past 12 months, the employee has achieved Vitalicy hand hygiene compliance of 75% or greater with consistent sensor use.
  • For the past 12 months, the employee has achieved the bar code scanning rate of 95% or greater.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately and promptly implements physicians' orders.
  • Administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully and correctly consistent to policy.

  • Keeps House Supervisor informed of patients, needs, and problems on the nursing unit.

  • Maintains acceptable standards of patient care including specified rounding requirements.
  • Maintains the standards of accurate and complete recording and reporting.
  • Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.
  • Maintains all education requirements according to organization and state requirements.
  • Willingly provides assistance to other nursing units when requested by management personnel.
  • Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees.
  • Observes and adheres to patients Bill of Rights as related to patient care.
  • Participates in hospital safety programs.
  • Participates in planning changes and improvements.
  • Practices scripting and communicates effectively with patients and family members.
  • Provides the best possible nursing care by planning, organizing, and directing the nursing functions of patients on the unit.
  • Perioperative Nursing Process: Patient assessment, nursing care plan creation and implementation, and evaluation of patient response and outcomes.
  • Maintaining Aseptic Technique: Demonstrating understanding and use of sterile principles and monitoring the sterile field for breaks in sterility.
  • Patient Safety: Ensuring patient safety related to positioning, equipment use, and specimen handling.
  • Equipment and Supplies Management: Preparing the operating room with necessary equipment and supplies, ensuring instrument sterilization and function, and managing inventory.
  • Surgical Counts: Performing and accurately documenting surgical counts (sponges, sharps, instruments).
  • Interdisciplinary Communication: Collaborating effectively with the surgical team (surgeons, anesthesiologists, scrub nurses, etc.).
  • Problem-Solving: Collaborating with staff and physicians to solve problems and maintain a collaborative environment.
  • Leadership and Initiative: Taking initiative in identifying areas for improvement and leading efforts to enhance care delivery.
