About The Position

Responsible for ensuring excellent patient care, maintaining safety standards, and providing medical assistance in the operating room. This role is for a Per Diem position with rotating shifts at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH). Minimum of four shifts per schedule are required, with at least three of those shifts being evening, night, weekend, or holiday shifts. Additionally, one major summer holiday and one major winter holiday are required. The role promotes a philosophy of patient/family-centered care through positive interactions, provides orientation information, and demonstrates awareness of hospital systems and procedures. The assistant refers patients and families to appropriate resources, independently transports and assists in patient transfers, properly identifies patients using two approved identifiers, and ensures safety and support measures during transfers, including awareness of special precautions for patients requiring them.

Requirements

High School Diploma or Equivalent required
Must be able to comprehend written directions for mixing cleaning supplies and ordering supplies.
Must be aware of proper body mechanics when assisting in patient transfer and lifting of heavy objects.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with other health care members.
Ability to work collaboratively with the surgical team.
Must constantly be alert and attentive to progress of O.R. schedule to meet tight deadlines.

Providing hospital/unit orientation information for guest, patients and families.
Demonstrating an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, procedure areas and other patient services.
Referring patients, families and others to appropriate resources.
Independently transporting and assisting in the transfer of patients.
Properly identifying patients utilizing 2 approved identifiers.
Ensuring safety and support measures in patient transfer (i.e. bedrails raised, patient covered with blanket and warm).
Being aware of special precautions in transferring patients with precautions.
